CEL P0138/P0300 when car sits for a while Posted by IanC [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
My 96 SETC with 192K invariably gives me a CEL stating that either the front O2 sensor (P0138) or random cylinder misfires (P0300) are occurring. Generally, pulling the O2 sensor and cleaning the O2 sensor threads and the threads and contact area of the header pipe seems to put things in order. What can I do to make this last? Also, I'm getting some idle surging and throttle response issues, are these related or something different? I looked for leaking vaccuum hoses but didn't see anything. This has been going on for about three months, since the car sat for a while without being driven.
Also, I noticed today that there is some rot of the header on the far driver side of the engine block. I thought this might be the cause of my problems but soapy water didn't reveal a leak. Am I correct in assuming that a leak would be seen this way?
Sorry for the long post. Tomorrow I will pull the AIC to clean it and continue my search for vaccuum leaks.
Thank you,
Ian
