Yesterday I pulled all the plugs to regap (NGK6ES-11 ~1yr and 18k miles old) from .042-.044 down to approx .037). This I followed up with an engine flush and oil change. When I ran some errands shortly afterwords the car hesitated and lurched at anything > 1/4 throttle. There was no audible knocking, no stalling, and car worked fine at idle and cruising.
I figured gaps were the problem, so I pulled all the plugs and noticed that #3 was cracked at the top. There were some tiny ceramic shards in the well that I had to fish out with long tweezers and tape, and the metal lead was bent slightly.
I replaced all four with brand new BCPR6ES-11s and all seemed well.
This morning I had a 120 mile drive for work. After the car sat for awhile (couple short trips with ~1/2 hour between each) and I started back up the CEL came on with P0171 (according to Autozone). Cleared the code and has not come back as of yet (~ 80 mile return trip).
There is no evidence of the piston colliding with the plug, but that's what I'm worried about. Maybe the flush released something or the rings were sticking?
I don't know, think the car's ok???
