Alternative replacement radiator fan resistor?

Anyone found a good replacement for the radiator fan resistor that Saab won't sell as an individual part? Just found the one on my wife's car is dead, who knows for how long.
Going through the archives, I find several suggestions but none are really definitive. Among them are:
- use the replacement resistor Saab does sell for the 9000. According to the SB its a .22 ohm. Drawback - expensive ($100-160)/
- Use an NTE50WMD20 (about $6 from Arcade Electronics). This is apparently the actual resistor that Saab provides for the 9000. This is a pretty standard item, similar aluminum cased resistors are also available from other manufacturers and suppliers.
- Use a fan resistor from any of several recent model GM cars. The one person who reported actually trying this said it made the fan fun a bit slower.
- making up a resistor pack. Someone on the 9000 list said they had good results from putting 4 radioshack 1 ohm 20W resistors in parallel.
My inclination is to try the .20 9000-style resistor since I can just pick up the phone and have one tomorrow, however, I don't really have any way of knowing whether that will give me the right speed with the NG900 fan. I could buy a .15, .20 and .25 and see what one works best since they are so cheap, but if anyone any info that would make this unecessary it would be most useful.
