Closed garage - okay to leave top down overnight?

Hello. Just got a NG 97 Convertible SE, and I absolutely love it. It's my first Saab.
I could not find this on the boards, so I'm posting (as opposed to the other 200 questions you've already answered for me - thanks!)
My convertible top looks absolutely brand-new - the 1st owner kept it in a garage. Every time I drive it, I drop the top. In the evening, I put the top back up, and park it in my garage. The next day, I drop the top again. In other words, I'm always raising and lowering the top.
I've ready posts about the electric motor failing, the 5th bow, etc, and I was thinking - why not just leave the top down all the time? It's in a closed garage, the seats are already worn to hell, (thank the 1st owner's German Shepard) and I have no valuables in sight. My Saab mechanic said if it's in a closed garage, the fabric shouldn't show creases, since it's dry, so it's all right to lower the top, and leave it there.
Any feedback on this would be appreciated. Thanks!
