2002 Saab 9-3 with around 50K miles cuts out only after starting it from COLD. The car has been back to the Saab dealer 5 times in the last two months. The spark plugs have been replaced multiple times due to fouling. (3 times within 1000 miles). Does the engine warning light only come on when the plugs are fouled? I asked them regarding the 6ES and 7ES plugs and they said they only get the Saab approved plugs.
All warranty work has been done on the car including a new DIC
This time the dealer said the spark plugs appear not to have been fouled and the engine light is not on this time. When you start the car from cold it starts first time then after 5 seconds the revs die and you have to keep the revs up to stop the engine from dying. After about 10 seconds it's fine and starts ok with no idle problems for the rest of the day. The dealer thinks that it needs $3000 repairs and labor and wants to replace a lot of parts like the timing and gaskets etc..which doesn't make too much sense to me, any suggestions would be appreciated. The car has always been fully serviced by Saab. Mid grade gas has always been used.
