I worked on a 2000 9-3 today and pulled the cover up as I do on our 9-5's.

One of the fingers that fits around the collar of the oil filler promptly exploded... makes me look quite lame....

So, any ideas on how to get that off without risk of such damage?

Anyone else had this problem?

We re-torqued the head bolts, none seems super loose. But when using a beaker bar, does not have ratchet, and backing off and then tightening to 60 NM, the bolts were then threaded to a deeper angle then they were, and that was before the 90 degree step.

I used an electronic torque cell that is a very nice thing. I also used a torque angle protractor. That required assistance to hold its 'anchor'. I could feel that some bolts had higher yield strength than others. But the variation was greater on a C900 engine that I helped with not too long ago.

The engine had gone through a suspected overheat. A HG oil leak had been suggested by someone else. Found the PCV gromlet/bushing useless and oil leaking from there, suspected HG leak as below that. At this point I think the only leak was from the PCV fitting not been in place.
