Yeah, Dean, you may be right that a professional can replace pads without allowing air into the system, but a DIY job might not be so precise.
You need to first turn the rotors (or just buy new ones and be done with it) and reinstall the whole deal. Then you need to go buy a vacume bleeder from autozone (I picked one up for 30 bucks a couple weeks ago). Get 2 or 3 bottles of brake fluid as well (depending on how much you want to flush the system).
With the whole system reinstalled, crack the bleeder valve, hook up the suckion to it and start pumping the pedal. Make sure to keep pressure on the system (you can tell from the guage). This will ensure that no air gets into the lines. This whole process can be done with the hand pump, but it's slow. Make sure to keep the resevoir full at all times. If it empties out, you need to start all over again. Keep going to each closer wheel until the whole system is done. Then repeat to make sure completly clean fluid is in there.
Last weekend I did a restoration on my 68 Healey. I used 2 liter bottles for the job, and that's with a very small braking system. However, the fluid probably hadn't been changed since George Bush took office (Sr.). Now that thing stops on a dime.
