Starting to move the vehicle in third gear and heavy throttle willmost likely cause the tranny fluid to overheat in warm weather and frequent start/stop cycles. Not recommended.
Sport mode does not give more power from the engine for the speed/load combination. It simply changes the speed/load combination that results in shifting gears (e.g., higher rpm to shift, therefore more power from engine and resulting kick in the pants).
It is easy to check whether the NSS has "shifted" position, resulting in the transmission not knowing what gear is requested.
Finally, CGB can be caused by shift solenoid failures. I replaced a perfectly good NSS ($290) before having a CGB diagnostic tell me of the solenoid issue ($50 diag.).
Good Luck.
