Well, I just checked it out in my garage. The fuses are all ok, and the fan comes on right away when I turn on the a/c. As soon as the compressor came on, there were a bunch of tiny bubbles in the receiver sight glass, and they disappeared within a minute or so. After that, the glass was clear. I had the a/c set to max (4) and recirculation, and it got pretty cold. IIRC, before the compressor seized and I replaced a bunch of parts, it seemed to work better when standing still than when it was on the road, which is baffling. Of course, that compressor was about to die and leave me stranded, so I can't really go by that.

Perhaps I just need to set it to 4 and recirc initially to cool off the car (so far, I've just used 2 and occassionally 3 for the fan speed) and to get things going. I'll check out the R134a w/ a guage, though, and see what that says.
