I posted a few days back for some advice. I was looking at two 2000 base hatches. I ended up not buying either. The low mileage dealer vehicle was sold that day and the higher mileage private owner vehicle had some undisclosed cosmetic issues. Plus it felt like it had been neglected for a year.

So what did I end up getting? A 2002 SE. I thought it was out of my price range (wanted to spend 10k). Actually the first Saab I drove was a certified 2002 SE that the dealer was asking 17k for. I paid 11k for the one I got. Couldn't pass up the deal.

specs: Silver 2002 SE hatch, 58k miles, full leather

So, I feel like I got a deal, most guides I had been looking at priced the wholesale at 12, so needless to say, I have been knocking on wood frequently.

I did sacrafice some of the things I had been demanding with other cars, like maintenance history. I was worried about the sludge problem. But I paid $800 for a 2/24 powertrain warranty that covers the engine, tranny and turbo. So that will get me past 80k anyway.

now for the questions:

The car is pristine, though, it does have one issue. On start-up it rotates once before starting. The dealer argued that it was because it hadn't been started often (one test drive in 3 months might have been why I got the deal), battery I little low. But it hasn't improved. Any thoughts on what this could be?

Car runs fine after it starts. First thought was the starter. I browsed a few other boards and read something about an alternator starting to go and possible a vacuum hose leak. Any thoughts appreciated. I'll start by testing the battery.

So, that seques to my next question. I want to work on this car myself for the most part, are there any Saab manuals out there? What about even a handy diagram. I have read vet DIYers mentioniing things, and though I am fairly competent it's kind of hard to locate some of the more obscure parts.

Can anyone explain the dipstick to me? So the oil level only registers on that little black nub?

Anyone have an idea how much it will be to get another key from the dealer?

Enjoying my Saab experience so far, though, I let my wife drive the 70 miles home from the dealer, so I am anxious to get behind the wheel again.

Thanks in advance.
