I hate to be negative (and negative people for that matter)! BUT this topic makes me worry!
My initial question is do you want to keep him as a friend?
Is his other lease ending soon or is he in default?
How does he take care of the Toyota?
Are you doing him a favor by doing this or is he doing you the favor? (attitude going into and ending the lease)
What are you willing to deal with as far as "normal" wear and tear?
Is his opinion the same as yours?
I have never found that money/business and family or friends mix well (conflicting expectations).
As the old saying goes "No good deed goes unpunished" -- for example you lease him the car and something goes out right away. You expect him to have it fixed but he thinks you knew it was going to happen soon and refuses to pay.
With all of that I wish you the best of luck with the new job and in resolving your car issue!
GOOD LUCK!
P.S. What is the definition of a pesimist?
An optimist with experience.
