Can I manually operate the Convrt. Top?

My local dealer just took in trade a 1998 Turbo Convertilbe in nice shape, but there's something not "right" about the top mechanism. It's binding and seems to be out of synchronisation. I know my classic900 convertible's top can be operated manually by releasing the hydraulics. If I remember correctly, the NG900 have an electro-servo top system. Can I manually unlatch and relatch the top so I can safely drive with the top up or down? He'll give me a great price if I take it as-is. (He doesn't want to mess with it to sell or take to the auction.) I figure I can have the Saab dealer look at the top mechanism over the winter.
Can I latch and unlatch the tonneau cover manually, and unlatch the rear of the top and lower it manually and re-latch the tonneau; then reverse ti pull to the up and re-latch it and the tonneau for top-up-driving?
