Last week I wrote in about changing the DI cassette on my '99 9-3 which has 145,000 miles. The dealer had told me it was going to go soon, so when the car stalled out last week I assumed that was the problem, had the car towed home and ordered a new one from Europarts. I ordered it Friday and got it today (Thursday.) Through all your instructions on this board I was able to change the cassette and put new spark plugs in myself. When I turned the ignition though -- she did not fire.
Then, acting on a hunch, I got a gas can and put two gallons of gas in the car. I turned the key and after a few seconds of chugging -- FIRE! Sometimes the simple solution is the easiest -- I was out of gas. I accept the dunce hat but let me say that I was on my way to the gas station when the Saab stalled, and the indicators showed I was in the red but not empty, and was supposed to have 33 miles left in the can. I just assumed it was the DI gone bad. But at least I have the new DI and sparks, and a valuable lesson to keep the tank full. More importantly, I learned that I CAN do a lot of simple repairs myself, with the help of all the wonderful people on this board who are so generous with their knowledge. This site helps demystify that most mysterious of vehicles -- the Saab. Thanks, everybody!!!
