don't know what it is but it is NOT a cabin air filter. the cabin air filter is a long, narrow filter (similar to engine air filter but longer and narrower) that fits under windshield cowling. for that you have to remove the wipers and the cowling to see it and/or replace it.
while we're at it, for anyone with a Saab more than a few years old, I would strongly recommend replacing the cabin air filter. when you open yours up, it will most likely look like a science project gone mad. there will be more mold and stuff growing that you can imagine. it's not a difficult job to replace it and the air coming out of your AC/vent system will smell much better.
