After having read numerous posts regarding front end noises I have decided to appeal for opinions about a disconcerting sound being made by my 95 900SE convertible.

When driving over pavement that has small, but abrupt changes in plane, either up or down, I hear a clanky (like stacked metal plates, slightly separated) rattle.

Car drives and handles well at all speeds. No vibrations, no pulling, tracks straight on roads without crown. Bushings seem to be solid. Tie rod ends do not seem to have any play. Ball joints seem solid. Can't budge the lower control arm while jacked up.

None of these sounds were noticible when the car was driven prior to being laid up for several months. While it was not being driven the front end was off the ground. Now that the car is back on the road it is exhibiting this symptom of "something being not quite right." Strut cartridges probably cound use replacement but could that be all that is wrong?

Any thoughts? Thanks
