Hi All,
OK, I have a '97 900 se turbo with sensonic gearbox.
Over the past few days I've noticed an intermittent raspy sort of noise which I tracked down on Friday evening to either the gearbox or starter motor.
I went to a local mechanic on Saturday and after a bit of a wait with the engine running the noise appeared and gradually got more frequent as I've noticed it doing. He removed the cover on the inner side of the gearbox and there were a lot of metal filings in there so it's obviously eating something... not a good sign.
He didn't have the time to do any work on it yesterday so we agreed we'd chat about it on Monday, after I have a think about what the best move now is. He quoted me in the region of £220 for the labour involved in removing and refitting the gearbox.
After reading quite a bit on here about the sensonic gearbox I'm wondering would I be best off going for the conversion to manual now to prevent future headaches. As I've said the car is a '97 model, she's got 80k miles on her, great condition etc.
I've read about the conversion kit but was thinking it would be more cost efficient to get all the gear off a scrapped 9-3 if I can get my hands on one, my Dad used to be a mechanic so we could maybe get the job done between us.
All advice welcome!
Dav.
