1994-2002 [Subscribe to Daily Digest] |
I have had issues with the tune since day one. This is on a 2002 viggen. My car ran awesome before the ecu update. I went with a stage 3 + from a tuner. Now I will not rip on any tuner on this board. This is what is happening on "MY CAR". Others have had no problems from what I hear.
History-My car has 54,000 on it and was owned by an older guy up until I bought it over a year ago when it hit 51,000. I had it checked out and it was in primo condition. Since then I have installed the plugs recommended by the tuner-twice. I have replaced the MAF, DIC, fuel filter, BPC, new air filter, clamps, vacuum hose-not all, coolant, oil. I have checked and re-checked every connection. I installed a boost gauge as well. Car has a full 3" exhaust with a 3 inch DP. I installed a wideband and I have other logging software. It has a forge IC with a custom made aquamist sprayer that sprays the IC. Intake temps have not got over 82 when testing With out stage 3 + car was on a dyno and put down 226 whp and around 265 ft lbs of torque. A\F ratio never got higher then 12.5 In other words it ran awesome. I then installed the staged ecu. Car put down 242 whp and over 305 ft lbs of torque. It runs lean as hell at the bottom end when all the torque comes in- a\f-15. It then closes the TB, boost goes from 17 down to 11 like a rock and it never comes back. A\F drops to under 10. It will do this in any gear from 2nd to fifth at any rpm. I CAN HEAR IT PING. Here's one of the big issues. I can only get 91 octane in Ca and Ca has all sorts of additives, but car is supposed to have tune based on octane rating. I dumped race gas in mixed with 91 which got me around 94-95 octane and the car is a rocket with no pinging.
I was told that this tune runs great on other cars, so maybe it is my car??
I just do not know what to do or say. The tuner put a call into the co that writes the program, but I have heard nothing. My advice, get your car running in tip top condition-which is what I thought I did based on the first dyno run and also how the car runs period. Then go with a tuner.
Oh yeah, all of times I have tested the car is when temps are not above 78 degree's and most of the time it was cooler.
I asked tuner to sell me another box with another tune, but have not heard from him.
I will let you all know what comes of it.
