You car correct in that the one located near the radiator accessed in front of the grill attached to the receiver/dryer is the high pressure side which is alos the worng side you want to measure from. The low pressure side is located right in front of the battery.
One of the mostg prominent things replaced in your car regarding the a/c is the hose that runs from the receiver/dryer down across the bottom of the car to the compressor. There are two fo these hoses, but the one that goes bad is the one closest to the front of the car. It has an aluminum sheeth around it and you can't see that all your refregerant is blowing back up inside the sheeth. The place that leaks iswhere the flexy rubber hose meets the aluminum crimped end near the compressor. If you cut that sheeth back and it is all gunked up there, that is your problem and probably the hissing you are hearing. I just did this job this past weekend. Not a bad project, just annoying. You need to discharge the system before removing the hose. Then it is 2 bolts and pop the new hose in and recharge the system.
Check this hose from underneath the car. There are two that have this aluminum sheeth but the one most replaced is the more forward one. Cut the sheeth and see whats there.
Check the connection at the receiver dryer as well. Make sure there are no cracks or splits there. Refrigerant is pretty easliy detected in bulk being that it is gunky in nature.
