With all of the recent pop, clunk, vibration, etc. posts, I have to add my $0.02. See previous post (linked below) for the full story.

My problem was a rhythmic vibration felt below the car when doing right turns only. It started out noticeable on significant curves at speed and seemed to get worse over a few hundred miles.

The solution was to replace a broken inner CV joint CIRCLIP on the left hand (driver) side. The joints on that side were all fine.

Previous diagnoses were:

0 (my own DIY diagnosis): bad right outer CV joint. The joint & boot were indeed bad, but this was not causing the problem. I replaced them with new GKN parts.

1 (SAAB shop): bad tires. They were indeed pretty bad and cupped, and alignment was off too. But this was causing OTHER vibration issues at all speeds and when driving straight, not the one felt above. With experience, you can tell a bad tire vibration but it's hard to convince the shop that you're feeling 2 different kinds of vibrations.

2 (SAAB shop): bad replacement outer CV joint after all. They swapped the inner driver first, which didn't fix it, but swapping the outer joint seemed to. (I got gently used parts for "free"--labor only.) In fact, I now think my GKN part was probably fine. But the problem came back after about 50 miles or less.

3 (SAAB shop): broken inner CV joint CIRCLIP on the left hand (driver) side. The joints on that side were all fine. Seems to have fixed the problem.

Diagnosis was tricky because the work in steps 0 and 2 seemed to fix the vibration problem for a couple of days or 50+ miles. The shop's theory on this is that jacking the car or putting it on a lift caused the wheels on both sides to drop down, putting some pressure on the driveshaft and temporarily seating it enough before it would begin to wobble again under the broken circlip.

I'm just glad to have it over. Would have been nice to get it done quicker but this was a tricky diagnosis for all. Shop took logical actions in my view. They were fair about the pricing in my view. I did pay some for each service.
