Call it kismet, but I finally remembered tonight to log on and share my convertible top replacement story (1 month after the fact). I have a '96 Saab 900 convertible and I shattered the back glass too. The bad news is that for the model years '95 and '96 only, if the glass breaks, you have to replace the whole top. I got a tip nice DIY guy here to try autotop-superstore.com. They use a brand called EZ-On tops. I bought a top from them for $486 including delivery (sent it direct to the installer). I got it in 4 days and had it installed by one of the installers the website recommended in my area. Installation labor cost me $800. so $1,286 to replace the top all-in. They did a great job and the top fit great. I think I saved about $400 off the replacement by getting my own top myself. Which leads me to my next point, make sure to tell the installer that you have your own EZ on brand top and that you need a price for just the labor. My top took a little less than 8 hours to install (~800 inc tax).

It sounds pretty dangerous to run around without a rear defroster, I would avoid that, you already know that the blind spot is big enough! add fogging and you are setting yourself up for a fender bender.

Autotop-Superstore was easy to use and I cannot say enogh about how awesome their customer service is. Vic I think it is, was great. I asked a bunch of questions before I bought and all were patiently answered. Most installers I talked to told me about what a nightmare the original OEM of the tops was..that all their tops needed alterations to fit...so I was pretty scared that I might end up paying 1,200 bucks all in and have to start over becasue I was trying to save a few bucks that I already didn't have.
