I think I had the same situation on my '99 Viggen. I'll describe my problem and the solution. In my case, the ACC wouldn't blow out the vent you commanded. In other words, in the summer the ACC commanded panel vents for the A/C to blow out. The air came out the floor vents instead. The odd part for me was if you manually commanded defrost and waited until there was flow from the defroster, you could usually get the air to come out the other vents if you tried the panel button.
In any case, the culprit was a sticky air diverter. There's a drum that the air flows thru, and it rotates to get the air out the various vents you select. The drum was sticking in it's housing to the point that the electric motor couldn't rotate the drum anymore. In a little more time, the drum would have stuck completely in whatever position it was in at the time.
The fix was pretty expensive. The part is only $170 or so, but it's the first component put in the interior of the car when it's built, so there was something like $700 in labor because they had to disassemble the majority of the dash to get access.
Good luck!
