I don't have much helpful to say about the situation, but... if anything stupid happens to a SAAB made in '94 or later, I think we all know what influence causes it.
buying public transportation just to kill it, perpetuating suburban sprawl, recalling/destroying successful electric vehicles, and trying to make more and more parts "non user servicable"... GM is in many cases, evil.
You know, what's kind of similar to this issue in another GM vehicle is something I experienced with my '00 Chevy Cavalier. One day the car wouldn't start, and was giving theft code issues. Turns out the ignition cylinder has some stupid extra security on it that periodically dies, can't be bypassed, can't be serviced, and can only be replaced by a dealer. It cost $400 (which may not sound as bad on these forums compared to SAAB repair bills, but that was the most expensive thing I ever had to do to the Cavalier) and the vehicle was immobilized for two days. Why? just because the part got old and failed. For a part that is never put under any real strain, that is not a good enough explanation for me. Thanks again GM. On the upside the Cavalier was a great value, the Z24 packed a mean punch for the marginal price.
