I just experienced something similar on my automatic 9-3SE, 99k miles. I think there could be a coolant leak or block as the engine is running very hot (temp gauge reads in the white at all times). 2 weeks ago I had an indy replace my starter as I was out of town when the starter went. It seems the engine has not been running properly since. It rattles, ticks and when I push on the gas it almost screams. Two days ago on a very hot day in MA my oil and temp alarms went off after driving for about 1.5 hours. I’ve been reluctant to drive it since. In addition, my exhaust seems to have an issue and the heat only works on high. I purchased it in ’03 as a SAAB Certified vehicle with 45kmiles. My warranty expired in June 06, during that time the car has been in the shop for one warranty repair after another…almost 25 times! I suspect that the dealer (128 SAAB in MA) is doing shotty work as there are a lot of complaints about their service. I’m wondering if any/all of my issues could be related to issues I brought in for warranty service. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Here’s a synopsis of the work I’ve had done at 128 SAAB.
10/03 – Check Engine Light on – Adjusted Cat Converter
7/04- Car cut out while driving - No Start Traced to DI Cassette. Replaced as Needed
10/04 – 60 mile check up
12/04 - Report Ck Engine Light on, Car Shaking No Pickup – (can’t find invoice detail)
1/05- Report Ck Engine Light on, Car Shaking No Pickup – Traced to gear Selector Switch, Replaced as needed. Exhaust, Cat Converter Code P0420…Programming Done Removed and Replaced Cat/Converter as Needed
2/05 - Exhaust - Flex Pipe Found Leaking - Replaced Flex Pipe with Clamps
5/05 - Interior Rattle-Customer States Purring Noise or Ticking Noise in Heater
When Vehicle off and on - Inspected and replaced noisy cabin Temp Sensor
Customer States Noise from Engine Area - Idler Pulley Defective and Noisy, replaced. Serpentine Belt Cracked and Glazed, Replaced.
6/05 -Customer States AC Inop and Ticking or Whiring Sound - Replaced AC Compressor
10/5 Reports Not Starting, Key out of IGN. Radio/Heat on - Replaces Battery as needed, Lubricated lock binding
12/05 - Reports Ebrake Inoperable - Adjusted E Brakes and Cable as Needed
Customer States Check Engine Light is on all the Time - Traced Engine Code P0420 Fault of Cat/Converter Performed SPS Programming of Trionic. C/E Light .P1576. Brake Light Switch Circuit Open.
1/5 - Electrical Pass Left Window, Electrical Pass FRT Window
3/5 Customer states heat only works on high. No problem found
Recall 15021/IDM Inspection/Replacement
6/05- Customer states stalling out at idle. Road test. No Problem found

-Reports car running rough, no ck engine light on traced to vac leak at brake booster line Replaced Vacuum Pipe.
7/06 Customer reports Engine Not Running Properly Advise: Replace Compressor!!!
