For traditional steel mufflers and pipes, the key seems to be the length of most trips. Short drives leave moisture from combustion inside to rust them inside out. Long drives heat the system up enough to drive the water vapor out. I have a mix, 5 miles to work, with twice monthly 300 mile weekends and the odd longer drive thrown in.
The Starla/Walker does not appear to be stainless. I cannot remember if the OEM is or not.
My 1990 original OEM stainless exhaust is still going strong. Next time I think I am going with the Saab. Dealer was out of stock, and I decided to just do it at the local indie. Thanks for the feedback. DER
