I've had bad switches, so swap the driver's with the passenger's on the dash to check. More often than not, the element in the seat has broken. The element is nothing but a small guage wire (insulated) which is coiled around in a foam pad. They get brittle in spots (like where your hip pivots, or where you wallet goes) and they break. You can check continuity at the connector under the seat to see if you have a break in the line. You can either solder it together where it has broken, or buy a new element. I usually solder them (I have done this many times on the 5 Saab's Ive had over the years), but this becomes an annual event, so these days I replace the element in total. They usually break in the seat bottom, but once I've had a break in the seat back.
