Situation: CPO 2001 Viggen, radio started intermittantly at ignition. Dealer replaced the radio within the "cooling off period" of the purchase. Initially, I thought the problem was fixed, but then it got worse - to the point that sometimes it wouldn't turn on at all, especially if a CD was loaded. I would turn the engine/ignition off, press a bunch of radio buttons, then start the engine and usually I could manually turn the radio on. Seems that reengaging the ignition would recycle the control. One time I drove it 15 minutes before I could get the radio to come on - having a CD loaded seemed to make it worse. I had people look at the radio and queried this board, but no one had a solution. Others had the same problem. I gave up trying to solve it and lived with this problem for two years until I replaced my car battery when the battery died. Since then the radio has started every time in all conditions - hundreds of engine starts. My theory is that either the battery being disconnected for a period of time reset the control to the radio (low probablity), or the new battery provided the proper amperage needed to start the radio within the time period it was supposed to start (high probablity). The radio starts now before I release the ignition key. I don't remember that happening so quickly, even at the time I bought the car. I recommend checking your battery's cranking power and if it is low, replace the battey. If the battery is good, perhaps disconnecting it will reset the control. Please post your results. Good luck.
