I can think of a few things, and agree with lms. In order of cost...
1. Shock nut. Since the struts (I'm assuming you mean the shocks IN the struts) were recently replaced, check that the big nut holding the shock in the tube is not bottomed out. I had a shock that didn't seat well in the tube and even with the nut tightened until bottomed out, the shock was slightly loose. I had to drop a few large washers into the bottom to take up some "mystery" space. Dealer thought it was the upper strut bearing. This manifested itself as more of a rattle during turns, but it could still be the issue.
2. Upper strut bearing. If this is worn, you can produce many strange noises that are not comforting to hear while driving...
3.Ball joints on lower control arms. Just replaced mine afer 135K (the whole arm needs to be replaced as the joint is not otherwise replacable). Still could not find play in the old joints after I got them off the car, but WOW, what a difference. No more vibration/wobble at speed, less wandering. I should have done this 25-30K ago.
4. Axle bearings, axle nut. If your axle bearing is shot, the front wheel will have some play in it. You should be albe to see movement (with the wheel off) of the hub/brake rotor in relation to the strut if you grab the rotor and try to move it side to side. This can also happen if the axle nut is not as tight as it could be.
5. Sway bar connection to lower control arm. If this connection is loose (I had a stripped bolt where it passes through the control arm, allowing some play) this could be a source of clunking type noises.
The front suspension for this car is not real complicated. You should be able to isolate the worn part with the suggestions above.
I don't consider myself an expert, only a vetran. I could have missed a few things to look at. If I did, someone please chime in.
The items above should cover 90-95% of the issues with the front end. As always, your mileage may vary and quite possibly could be lower...
Good Luck!
