1994-2002 [Subscribe to Daily Digest] |
First set of numbers from first analysis 11/05, second set from 11/06. Notable improvement due to recular usage of Techron, new spark plugs, engine flush and many miles on good quality synthetic oil (Amsoil, but also some cheapo synthetics).
Analysis # 1 (first set of numbers) 111137 miles on the car and 3900 on the oil with 1qt of topup during a filter change. Amsoil turbo formula 10-30.
Analysis #2 (second set of numbers) 130150 miles on the car and 5000 miles on the oil (no topup). Quaker State Advanced Engine synthetic 10-30.

You can definately see the difference in the additive packages between these two oils, but I sure am happy with the wear numbers even with the cheap oil. With these numbers I feel completely safe in continuing to use the QS and other cheapo full-synthetics instead of AMSOIL or Mobil 1.
These Saabs sure do rack up the oxidation and nitration though. If those numbers were a little lower I'd be happy with better oil and 10k mile changes, but it's just not worth it.
I will also continue using the 10-30 weight year round, even in my cold climate (Michigan). From what I've read, it's best to avoid as many viscosity modifiers as possible. 10-30 from what I understand should have the least amount possible.
