As nice as they look, I wouldn't buy them. I also don't think it's becassue they're too soft, it's the design.
If you look at the actual rim cross section, there are no strengthening 'ridges' there. The rim is perfectly flat from where the spokes attach into the inner edge. I noticed that most rims are not like this but have 'ridges' which would add strength.
Not sure I'm making sense, but think of a corrugated pipe versus one that's perfectly smooth...which is stronger across it's diameter? If the 'new' Viggen wheels that someone mentioned, are designed like the old, they'll have the same problem. I don't think material strength will change much.
I went with AT Italia Nido, 18 x 8 from the Tirerack with absolutely no issues despite hitting some pot holes. These are two piece forged rims. Handling is amazing with almost no ride harshness.
