I think you probably need a new instrument cluster, its a pretty common occurance. What are your other gauges doing? Do a search here to see other examples of this problem. Apparently what happens is the dash begin to sag resulting in the cluster banging against a big metal bar deep in the dash. The fix is to pad that bar with pipe insulation. Its easy to see the bar once you pull out the cluster (for which there are directions here). Heck, it could even be that you have just a loose connection. I would pull it all apart check the connection and wiring and while your at it put some padding on that bar. If it works you're good to go, otherwise look for a used cluster and have your dealer adjust the milage on the odometer after you install it, after you pad that bar.
