Funny, I too have a '99 93 and an '01 95. I bought the 93 at 40m miles and have been using Castol 5-40 Syntec (full synthetic)and Bosch filters every 3500 miles. I have 110m miles on it now and there is no sludge. Yes, the filter is easy to get at, just like your 9-5. I forget the size of the plug but I do know its a different size from the 9-5 because I always manage to first get under the car with the wrong wrench.
BTW, one of the first things you should do is replace that undersized rear sway bar with the 22mm upgrade offered by Talaferro (SP?) who advertise on this board. I think its only about $75. and its real easy to install. It will improve the handling noticably. Good luck with your new car.
