Hi Andrew:
My wife has a 2003 9-3 SE vert and I a 2000 9-5 V6 SE. I drive 56 miles a day to and from work and used the wagon for such a commute. She's now 9 mos pregnant and the 'vert was a tight fit for her, so we've now officially switched, for now and when the baby is here.
The vert has the full sport treatment with 17" Saab BBS rims (never seen another with them... they do look sweet), carbon fiber dash, sport seats, etc.
The wagon is much more comfortable. I find the vert to be tiresome on the highways... lots of road noise, and you can obviously hear everything through the soft top. The car's chassis flexes noticeably over bumps and through turns. The top is noisy, too, when you hit a rocky road.
But boy, on a sunny day, with that top down... there's no place I'd rather be than behind the wheel of that car (as was the case this morning in Atlanta).
If you're a commuter logging 2+ hours/day in the car, avoid temptation and stick with something more traditional. But if you're an about-town guy, the vert is a fine choice.
Hope this helps.
