I have had the exact same problem. The problems started a few weeks before the head gasket died. Now that that is all fixed, head reground etc etc the problem still continues.
The pump no longer runs for 5 seconds to "prime" the fuel supply before starting. I have also experienced a problem starting it when it is hot. I stopped for fuel, filled up and it would not start again. After being off for an hour it started first turn.
The check engine light has come on when I do not have the throttle depressed and I am slowing down from say 70mph and this claims to be the lamda sensor accoriding to a tech 2 device which a dealer plugged in for me. I am not sure if the two issues are related.
