You might check that cable connections/clamps to the battery are clean and tight first before checking other things.
Removal and replacement of the battery is a simple easy procedure - involves removing cables and 1 bolt on the battery hold down bracket (at least on my 97 SET).
Safety precautions - remove negative terminal first, and be careful not to short out terminals etc with wrenches etc. Also beware of any traces of acid on the battery which can irritate skin and eat holes in clothes. If cable clamps have greenish looking residue on them this can be cleaned/neutralized with a paste of baking soda and water or a commercial battery cleaner available at parts store for 2-3$
Most parts stores will check your battery for free - you may have to leave it there for an hour or two while they attempt to charge it up. My 97 SET has a Duralast 47-D (Autozone brand). It has a 03 date on it - has worked fine for the year I've had the car. I would guess the price at Autozone is 60-70$.
Good luck,
Bob
PS - after disconnecting the battery the radio will not work until you enter the security code - which is usually found on a small card in the owners manual folder.
