It's been awhile since I did that, but as I recall once you pull the radio there is a rectangular connector on the PC board that holds the buttons and panel lignts. If you look carefully where the connector feet are soldered to the PC board you'll find the solder on probably all of them has a very minute crack cutting across it. It's easier to find them if you push the connector slightly to one side to open them up. I just put a little flux on each and then reheated it with my small soldering iron until the solder flowed. When it cooled the crack was gone. I put it all back together and it worked fine.

The SID on my wife's 2002 SE is starting to lose a few pixels so it looks like I'll get to try that fix, too.
