There are two plugs on the side. The upper one is the level plug. If oil is up to the bottom of the hole, then it's full. The plugs are very tight and hard to get out, so generally people don't bother checking the transmission oil level unless they think they have a leak. That isn't to say that checking it is a bad idea, of course.
