Maintenance tips for a convertible?

As a new convertible (my2003) I searched the forum for tips on maintenance but couldn't actually find much. A lot of other good stuff, though.
So, what do you do to keep the tonneau cover in good shape? Any specific chemicals that would be useful or protect e.g. from sun. Well, it should be kept down during sunny days but down here in South it gets often too hot. I read various stories about mechanical failures. Are there any specific parts to grease or keep clean in order to avoid problems?
What about all the rubber parts, plenty of moldings in the convertible. Is the stuff sold as Vinyl/Rubber protectant ok or is there some magic chemical to be used? And how do you keep that stuff away from the painted surfaces & windows? Or wax away from the rubber parts, for that matter.
