New ignition switch in genuine sealed GM parts box arrived from The Saab Site for $148.20 (also ordered misc switch lights).
Followed console steps at http://www.mpperformance.com/saab-shortshift-install.htm
But will note the following changes from other documents:
1) Battery was connected throughout as opposed to Hyanes recommendation.
2) Driver and passenger seats stayed in the car (plenty of room)
3) Automatic: Once the 4 10mm bolts are removed holding down the shifter, you can lay it on it's side toward the US passenger and replace the switch from the US driver area. Be sure to tape or carefully mark clips, covers, etc... This is far easier than messing with various cables and unrelated hardware that are part of the shifter assembly.
My particular switch was covered with what looked like 3-in-1 oil cascaded from above, probably had never been replaced in the 70K on the car.
Total job was 2.5 hours.. be sure to label parts as you go and have a magnetic wand to retreive parts that wander out of reach.
