The OG9-3 use the Dexron III just like the NG900 where as the 9-3SS and up use the Mobil 3309.
Even though the transmission in the NG900/OG9-3 is seen to be almost bullet proof, that doesn't mean 100% of the transmission NEVER fail.
You WILL have a failure here and there for many different reasons.
I have yet to replace an automatic in a NG900/OG9-3 but I have heard about it happening.
Running low on fluid can damage a transmission.
A leaking coolant radiator can damage the transmission if coolant is allowed to mix with the ATF.
Towing can kill the transmission prematurely and especially if the fluid is not changed on a regular basis.
Not changing the fluid at all can kill the transmission prematurely.
