This sounds similar to my own problem...I was transporting a large box recently, and accidentally jammed the convertible top on it during the closing cycle. After this, the top would only open or close part of the way on its own, and had to be manually assisted to finish. I took it to my local dealership (Marvin K Brown in San Diego) for diagnosis, they told me the universal joint (part number 5362728) and a shear pin (part number 5360912) needed to be replaced. They quoted me $222 for parts and $450 for 4 hours labor. Could anyone advise if this is a DIY-friendly repair, and perhaps recommend a place to get the parts cheaper if it is? Does the quote seem reasonable?
PS - for anyone else that goes to MKB, they have some 10% off general service coupons good for the rest of the month on their web site. Just look in the "Service Specials" section.
