so my loving wife is driving my 97 set around for a couple days while i'm doing the fuel pump on her 97 set, and my car decides to freak the f out and throw up an abs light, check engine, the acc turns off, yada yada yada. i park it and take the beater to work (love the c900) and decide to investigate today. i notice the cabin lights are bright after a very very hard start and there's a bunch of bearing racket coming from the engine bay, slight smell of burnt rubber, car stumbling on idle, general horrible stuff...

so i take a voltage reading at the battery: 18.5 volts!


... then i notice the wetness of the battery... quick taste: acid.

crap.


i'm thinking alternator took a dump. anybody else? it's a little bit of a bummer if it is the alt, because the car only has 70,000 miles on it.

and it's a drag to swap the alt to boot.

opinions?
