I took my 1999 9-3 SE 76,000 mi. 5-spd into a very respectable dealership for some service- a fuel filter change, and an oil change, and tire rotation, nothing big. Just two days before this I drove the car ~225 miles to Iowa from Chicago (the dealership is in Iowa). I remember thinking while driving that my car was feeling perfect- no vibrations, no pulling, no odd noises... this made me feel great. I dropped the car off for service, came back 2 days later to drive away and feel it has a slight shimmy on acceleration. I attributed this to one of this wheels out of balance (dont ask why I didnt turn around and let them know something didnt feel right -live & learn) so when I get back home to chicago I take my car and get the wheels balanced- that didn't solve the vibration, the next day I tossed $100 at it for a Hunter Road Force Balance... no change. although the Tech said I had at least 2 bent rims and one tire that "wobbled" and those might be causing the problem. I then thought well the tires only have 6000 miles on them, I'll call up tire rack to see if they'll replace them for me... they gave me the run around for a day- up and back with customer service until I got a hold of someone VERY helpful, she said warrany worth $XX.XX or XX% off the % off was worth more to me so I went with a new set of tires & wheels because I have 2 or 3 bent wheels.

I have had the new wheels on for a couple days (not much driving maybe only 35-40 miles) and I still have this annoying vibration. So now I am sitting here 3 weeks, $1000, 4 new 17" wheels and tires later and I still have a vibration problem...

THE VIBRATION:

Initially the vibration (more like a shimmy) occured only on slight acceleration from 35-50 mph- (nothing noticeable on hard acceleration) it runs smooth as glass at 70-85+ even on acceleration

Now I feel it on ALL acceleration from 35-55 easy accelleration produces a shimmy as noted before and hard acceleration produces a harsher vibration. The vibration has always been felt through the center console (where my knee rests) and the gear shift. The harsher vibration is more noticed through the gear shift.

Now that I have been paying attention more to all aspect of the car I have noticed a slight (so slight it might be in my head) pulse of the brakes when applying the brakes lightly from 15 mph to 0 mph.

THE CAR:

original suspension, transmission mount, engine mounts, rotors (front and rear) new front pads at ~ 55,000 miles, (I believe) original rear pads, cv boots okay. new wheels & tires (35-40 miles on them).

slid off the road, no curb or ditch, one time at about 35-40 mph(august '06 10000 miles ago) with the wheels locked fully to the left (no immediate damage noticed) car ran straight and vibration free after that. inspected cv boots, tie rod ends and ball joints- all okay at the time

have yet to check NOW:
all motor mounts
transmission mounts
tie rods / ends
ball joints
strut mounts

I plan on a full brake job in 2 weeks or so (maybe a warped rotor causing vibration?)

if all mounts check out okay and brake job doesnt fix i will do both cv joints.

I HOPE THIS EXTREMELY LONG POST DOESNT SCARE ANYONE OFF... I just really need any advice on what to look for, how to test & inspect all motor/trans/strut mounts and such. any and all input is welcome.
I think I have read 90% of the posts about vibrations, shimmys, cv joints, tie rods, strut mounts, motor mounts, trans mounts etc.

thanks
