Yeah, so your car have kind of a history then if it is also a sludge engine.
It's very hard to tell if the oil starvation earlier have done damage to bearings and such, especially the balance shaft bearings.
Rod and main bearings are easily checked and measured with Plastigauge but the balance shafts are harder since you have to pull the shafts out and study the bearings and know what you see.
Do you have the timing cover off yet?
The oil pump seems to be marginal in efficiancy on the newer engines but the 99 B204 use the older style so it might be ok as long as the balance sprockets are not worn down to nubs and the debris has scratched the heck out of timing cover and pump.
