If you have a problem where the car sets a code for something, you will not be able to get the readiness to set.
Readiness is the final result of when the car is working as it should with no problems in the emission system. The fuel computer checks different things while you are driving and when everything is fulfilled, it will declare the car ready.
If something is not quite right, it will trigger a fault code instead and the readiness scheme will be halted until the problem is repaired.
Kind of a ctach 22 where you have to fix the car just like the emission people wanted it to be.
