Hello all,
Recently it has become very warm in New England. Yesterday it was about 85 degrees here in MA. Yesterday I also noticed a boost problem. I have a mbc+a. So I turned down the anticipator as I was having some lag issues. I did not turn down the boost, which is set to about 11 or 12 PSI. I noticed after that, that I could not boost much past 8 PSI without having a backfire almost. Not a single solid backfire either, but like several, kind of like a small popping noise and vibration that can be felt in the car while near the red zone. I checked all of the vacuum lines and didn't see any problems except the hose that connects to the by-pass valve was loose. So I tightened it, which didn't make a difference. The by-pass valve is not original, but it was making some hooting lately. I got new plugs about 5,000 miles ago. The only other thing I can think of is maybe exhaust. If I had a large enough hole in my exaust could something like this happen? I have all stainless from the mid-muffler back. The flex pipe has 120k to 130k miles. It is getting rusty in some spots. Matter a fact, where the flex meets the cat, the clamp broke in the fall and caused something like this, I replaced the clamp, but I think there may be some rust through on the flex pipe end. Another spot I have noticed is, the downpipe where there is the flex part. The flex part can be moved up and down with my hand as if it has broken off. But this never caused a problem, and it has been like this for quite a while. What do you guys think? I am lost on this one and before I begin to throw cash at it, I want some ideas. Thanks a lot!
