The right drive shaft is of a free floating style where some play is normal. The problem is when the play is more than that.
It has been talked about here before so you can find some posts about it by searching.
I would not allow the shop to cut and trying to extract the old bushing on a trial and error basis with the knowledge that "you might" need a new transmission in the end.
It is far more cheaper to replace the seal at this time and take your chances and maybe having to top off the tranny fluid now and then instead.
Saab supposedly have a special tool to pull that bushing out but "due to the difficult nature of the repair" they have not imported it to US.
Don't know why the mechanics in Sweden would be better at doing this repair but that is what it says in a bulletin Saab issued.
