BBS wheels placebo effect (viggen)

finally decided to get some new wheels for the viggen, the original wheels were a worry, one was leaking from a rim repair and although they were still round I knew they were fragile - roads around my neighbourhood are not friendly to soft wheels - so I handed over my credit card and my local tyre dealer fitted these RX 248- 17 x 7.5" BBS wheels -see pic - with my existing pirelli pzeros (already had them on the OEM wheels) - so I headed off home down the bumpy concrete slab arterial road that I travel on regularly at suburban speeds (60- 80km/h - 35-50mph) after 20 minutes of driving I was convinced that the car rode, handled and steered better on bumpy surfaces with the new wheels!!!
How is this possible? surely the original viggen wheels are not that different to the BBS wheels? - A wheel is a wheel right? I didn't compare the weight but the old wheels are not that heavy - so it can't be the unsprung weight difference, maybe the originals flexed or something.
or maybe it's all in my mind.....I'm having trouble believing that wheels of the same dimensions can alter the handling and ride noticeably but maybe someone can enlighten me?
