CEL and very high engine revs in neutral

Ok, guys I need some help here. I just had to call a tow truck for the first time with my Saab. Hopefully someone can clue me in on what I'm in for.
Was driving down the street making a left turn and the CEL comes on and the car goes into "limp home" mode. Great. Turn off the road immediately and killed the engine. I broke out the manual just to make sure that it was cool to drive on at least to get me home. Waited a moment, then started the car back again. After the car started, it immediately revved up to around 4000 RPM. Shut the car off. opened the hood to have a look around. Nothing seemed odd except for a humming noise that seemed to come from the front of the engine compartment. Then the fan kicked on. I waited a bit, then started the car again with the same results. I tried to tap the gas a little harder to see if it was just stuck. That didn't help at all. At this point I feel like I'm SOL. Called OnStar, got a tow to the local Saab dealer (I was and am currently out of town, visiting relatives) to have them take a look. Fortunately the car is still under certified pre-owned (hopefully that will take care of any cost incurred) and my dad just happens to have a spare car for me to get my family and I back home in. I'm just curious what could cause this kind of problem as it looks like I'll have to wait until Monday before I'll hear from the shop.
The car is an '02 9-3 SE with about 71K miles. There's been nothing odd going on with the car, and had been running great up to this point. Any input would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
