Hi gang
I installed PCV kit #6 today and I noticed some disagreement regarding the placement of the insulation sheet.
DIY people like myself seem to be of the mind that the insulation sheet wraps around the crankcase vent hose to insulate it from the heat generated by the nearby coolant lines. For an example, see here: http://fixmysaab.com/9-5_repair/PCV/step1.html
The Saab TSB, in contrast, seems to indicate that the insulation sheet wraps around both the coolant lines AND the crankcase vent hose. I assume that this actually uses the heat of the coolant lines to warm the crankcase vent hose. For the description, see here: http://www.genuinesaab.com/psi/files2/tsb210-2418%20ed4%20en.pdf
Of course I'd first go with the Saab TSB were it not for the fact that the TSB left out a goodly bit of useful information that made me wonder. In addition, the Saab method is a collosal pain in the rear, whereas the DIY method I've been seeing is comparatively easy.
My solution was to wrap the insulation around the top coolant line and the cranckcase vent hose. Pulling it around the bottom hose would have required quite a bit of disassembly around the throttle body and I didn't want to go there.
What did you do?
