Brake pads - lost at sea...any engineers in the house? Posted by Andrew [Email] (#1013) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Andrew) on Wed, 13 Jun 2007 10:32:49 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
So I have read pretty much every post on this board and still am lost on what to do about brake pads. I have a '99 9-3...with new Koni kit :-)
I'm looking for a good all around pad, no track use, but I do come screaming down the mountains quite often out here in Denver. I would like to take advantage of any new modern pad technology available. Some of the new ceramics seems to be a better choice over the OEM, but I don't really care about dust, just care about stopping. Rotors...I'm just going with your basic Brembo's. I have a friend with a Ferrari 355 and yes, that car has solid rotors. It stops fine from 130. So, I'm sure my little Saab will be fine for another 100K on non-drilled/slotted rotors.
So..getting to the pads. 1) What ever happened with EBC Green Stuff? Any reason anyone know why Genuine Saab stopped selling? Are there better compounds out there now?
2) Do the new Akebono Euro Ceramic Pads, or ProAct have a better compound than Pagid or Satisfied?
Anyone really know from a scientific/engineering standpoint what's what out there in pad technology? Or is it really all about the same across manufactures...just pick one and go with it? My assumption is you get what you pay for in pads? Anyone care to correct me?
Thanks...
